Yose

The concept is a select shop for food—a place where people can casually drop in and naturally form new connections. With that image in mind, we named it 'Yose,' meaning 'gathering.'

In form, it’s an authentic kakuuchi, essentially a standing bar, but the space is deliberately designed with a stark, industrial aesthetic. The counter is made from lightweight mortar, creating a minimalist interior that contrasts with the traditional tavern feel. This blend of classic and contemporary approaches is a defining feature of the space.

A key feature is the display of genuine ukiyo-e prints, framed in acrylic with intentional blank spaces to give them a contemporary art feel. The juxtaposition of Japanese and Western elements, classic and modern, creates a subtle sense of unease that defines the unique world of Yose.

Additionally, the space is equipped with professional-grade amplifiers and carefully selected vintage speakers placed in all four corners, creating an ambiance reminiscent of a music bar. In its form, design, art, and sound, this place is filled with unexpected details that defy conventional expectations.
