2022.2.11
In 2022, Ogawa Coffee celebrated its 70th anniversary. Marking this milestone, the Ogawa Coffee Sakaimachi Nishiki Store opened in Kyoto, the birthplace of Ogawa Coffee. We were responsible for the creative direction of this new store, which serves as the starting point for a new chapter in Ogawa Coffee's journey.
The concept is “A Store That Will Last 100 Years.” We aimed to express the sustainable initiatives that Ogawa Coffee has long championed while pursuing a design that is fundamentally timeless and unaffected by trends. To achieve this, we enlisted architect Kazuya Sasaki of Small Clone, known for designing and planning numerous notable establishments, focusing on meticulous detail to create a "basic design that will not fade away."
Our goal was to create an ideal coexistence between the cherished traditional Japanese coffeehouse culture and the takeaway-centric café culture that emerged after the third wave. This synergy is made possible by Ogawa Coffee’s ability to encompass everything from classic to specialty coffees, resulting in a novel store concept that doesn't exist elsewhere.
Additionally, we oversaw the creation of a pour-over dripper made from organic cotton and other merchandise, as well as the planning and organization of events in the free space located on the second floor. We are also involved in the production of artisanal bread, ensuring a comprehensive curation of Ogawa Coffee’s new worldview.
